Copywriting for chatbots: 3 tips (+ free gift)
How to create a chatbot for WhatsAPP?

If you can’t wait to open your gift…

People are social beings. We do not live in our own bubble, isolated from what is going on around us. On the contrary, we need to communicate, either through words (verbal, spoken or written communication) or through gestures (non-verbal communication).

Good.

So far so clear. This is something we were taught at school when we were little and there is no need to think about it any further.

But you will agree with me that there are ways to communicate and ways to communicate.

And more specifically when we use the written word.

And even more so when it comes to a conversation with a chatbot.

Comunicación escrita para chatbots

How many times have you heard people say “a conversation with a bot is cold and boring”, “I don’t usually understand what they say with the language they use”, “I don’t like the impersonal tone with which they address me” (if you want, you can change the vowels of these last sentences for the letter i and it will sound funnier).

Well, look, yes. This happens in many, many businesses that use chatbots to communicate with their customers. Well, we can really leave it at “they use chatbots” because communicating is something else…

Do you know why?

Because they don’t take into account the power of copywriting within a chatbot.

Why use copywriting in your chatbot?

It is true that artificial intelligence has come a long way in the field of language. It has gone from saying robotic and canned sentences to making use of natural language and giving answers as precise as a human would.

But no one is born taught anything.

Nor are chatbots.

That’s why it’s important to be very clear that it’s not enough to know what to say or how to respond to a user’s query; you also have to take into account how to say it. The tone, the type of language, spelling and grammar… Everything counts in a conversation between a human and a bot.

Copywriting para chatbots

Copywriting has a great weight in the success of a chatbot. It is the writing technique that we can use to connect through a bot with our audience. That is why it is so important to use it in the words, phrases or messages we send to our audience through the bot.

Advantages of using copywriting in your bot messages

When we talk about the use of copywriting in a chatbot we have to keep in mind that it is somewhat different from how we use it in a sales page but its purpose, depending on the objective or strategy of your chatbot, is the same.

The three main advantages we found of using good copy in a chatbot and that are triggered one after another are:

Conversion

When you connect through words with the person on the other side of the conversation, empathize with their problems, accompany and guide them through the buying process, solve their problems quickly, simply and directly, etc., the only thing that can happen is that they go from being a simple user to a customer. In other words, those messages that are launched from the bot to the user do the magic of conversion (and without a wand).

Loyalty

If you put yourself on the user’s side, what happens when…

  • You are treated well.
  • You feel listened to as a person.
  • They solve your doubts.
  • They advise you about products or services that may interest you.
  • They offer you a fast and quality service.

So you will come back again and again to buy or hire the services of that business and, in addition, this leads to the next point that is just below. ⬇️

Brand reputation

When a customer is almost 200% loyal to a brand, he will speak well of it. They will recommend your services over those of your competitors, they will write reviews, they will make comments?

And what happens with this?

Your reputation and brand awareness go through the roof. We should not only focus on selling and selling, but also on retaining the ones we already have and attracting new customers through the ones we already have.

3 tips to make a good copy for chatbots

Now that you know the theory of why to use copy in a chatbot, I’m going to teach you three things to keep in mind when writing messages in your bot.

Be aware of your verbal identity

Just as you take your verbal brand identity to your social networks, your blog or your web copy; you also have to do it in your chatbot. Your customers have to recognize in every word the brand behind it.

Tip: use words that identify you in the bot’s answers. For example, if you always greet with “Hi”, so will your bot.

A good thing is twice as good if it’s short.

As a general rule, people have little time, and those who use a chatbot, even more. Don’t be long-winded with your answers, get to the point. Don’t waste your user’s time or you will lose it.

Tip: when you start writing a response, write everything you want to say without paying too much attention. Then, go back to that text and eliminate all the words that do not contribute anything to the answer until it is as simple and concrete as possible.

Uses simple language and a conversational tone.

It’s a bot talking to a human. It’s not a NASA engineer, it’s not your neighbor on the fifth floor, and it’s not a four-year-old. Always look for balance.

Tips:

  • It’s a one-on-one conversation. Make the user feel comfortable.
  • Use a tone that is formal, but not too formal.
  • Don’t complicate your writing, the simpler the better. Avoid technical terms and use simple sentences (subject + verb + predicate).
